The first save calmed me down

18-year old Matyáš Vágner made his first-team debut at Rangers replacing Ondřej Kolář after his injury during the second half.

“When I saw the tackle on Ondra Kolář, I knew it would be bad. The coach immediately told me to start worming-up. I was quite nervous when entering the pitch. But after the first save I calmed down,” says the goalkeeper who played mostly in the Czech U19 league this season.

“The managers told me that I could play, I could do it. He told me to enjoy it and not to make the game complicated,” added Vágner about the moments shortly before his substitution.

“I was lucky I could get hold of the first ball. It helped me to get into the game, then I was calm and managed it. It is something wonderful, I am glad we went through as a team. We did it and we are through into another round. And even better is that I could contribute,” he said on the second UEL quarter-final for Slavia in three years.

And who would our goalkeeper wish for the quarter-finals? “I wouldn’t mind another trip to the Great Britain, this time to Old Trafford,” our goalkeeper concluded.
