Slavia and Iron Maiden match to help Tereza
A closed-door match between Slavia and Iron Maiden, who are currently performing in Prague’s O2 Arena, took place on the training ground in Eden. The whole band exclusively signed Slavia jerseys, which fans of both Slavia and Iron Maiden can auction off to help Tereza, who suffers from cerebral palsy. The auction is open to new bids until Saturday, June 10 at 16:00.
“It was a very even game, very good game, I loved it. But I haven’t played for a long time, and I have a gig tonight, so I took it easy. I wasn’t really running too much today. All the band signed the shirts yesterday, we are happy it is a for a good cause,” smiled captain of the winning team Steve Harris.
“It is amazing to see Slavia and heavy metal legends Iron Maiden contribute to Slavia Foundation in order to help little Tereza, who bravely fights this serious illness. She is going to receive the money raised by signed shirts auction as well as more contributions from partners who joined us for the game. I salute to their enthusiasm and believe that they enjoyed the match with many football legends as much as we did,” Slavia chairman of the board Jaroslav Tvrdík said after the game.
The Iron Maiden team was in a long tug of war with Slavia for the lead with sixty-seven-year-old leader Steve Harris playing the whole game and contributing greatly to the final 10-6 victory for the guests.
Our guests wore their West Ham United shirts. West Ham will play the UEFA Conference League Final at Eden Arena next Wednesday. Steve Harris, the bassist and founder of the band, is a big fan of the Hammers, the club that features ex-Slavia players Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal.
Iron Maiden team was completed by Tomáš Necid and Karel Poborský, against whom Vladimir Šmicer led the Slavia team as a captain. Besides Pavel Kuka, Patrik Berger and the club staff and partners, representatives of the Live Nation agency, which arranged the duel, also joined the game. Czech artists Dan Bárta, Jakub Prachař and Matěj Rupert also took the field in the duel of musicians.
“At Slavia Foundation we are so happy to see this charity match happening. The contributions will be used to help twelve-year-old Tereza Němečková who bravely fights cerebral palsy. She is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair to move around. Accessible housing is therefore vital for her family. The raised funds will cover the reconstruction of bathroom and shower to make them accessible,” the Foundation director Silvie Špryňarová added.
In addition to the five signed and framed jerseys, the auction also includes three Puma sweatshirts prepared specially for the occasion. Slavia partners, Fortuna, Mattoni and Uniprint also contributed to Tereza’s cause.
