Pre-season training under way

PRAGUE - Three friendlies and intense training. The new reinforcements joined the squad and introduced themselves to the fans at the pitch. That was the first phase of Slavia´s pre-season preparation.
Two weeks of holiday and quickly back to work. The first-team squad returned to pre-season training on 2 June and dived back into hard work. With triple training sessions in Nymburk, players were keen on playing three friendlies to change the pace.

Their first opponents were SK Benešov and Slavia handled the match well as the sewn-ones won 4-1. Jan Bořil opened the score in 23rd minute after Kenia’s corner kick and Hušbauer added Slavia’s second goal after a cross by Mešanovič. The second half belonged to players who have returned from the loan, especially to Robert Hrubý who slotted home twice.

The second friendly against Slovakian MFK Ružomberok excited the fans as they could see the new reinforcements for the first time. Striker Mick van Buren was tackled in the box and Jasmin Ščuk dispatched the penalty 1-0. Ružomberok equalized from a free kick in the 70th minute and since neither of the teams were able to score again, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Slovakian league runners-up were third and final opponent Slavia faced in the first phase of pre-season training. And the sewn-ones had no mercy with ŠK Slovan Bratislava. Mešanovič was tackled in the box in 12th minute and Antonín Barák executed the penalty shot 1-0. But it was the second-half eleven that caused Slovan’s defence a lot more trouble. The successful attempts of Hrubý, Kenia and Voltr resulted in 4-0 win for Slavia.

The head coach Dušan Uhrin was pleased with the first phase of training. “No one has been injured so far which is crucial for the second phase. We will play difficult matches in Austria and we need to be fully prepared to try different styles during the game,” explains the coach.
