New signing: Lukáš Pokorný

PRAGUE - Strong reinforcement for Slavia defensive! 24-year old centre back Lukáš Pokorný joins Slavia from the French Ligue 1 club Montpellier HSC for the transfer fee of 800.000 Euro.
Lukáš Pokorný joined Montpellier from Slovan Liberec in January 2017. The 190-centimeters-high defender has played 13 games for the French side in the spring part of 2017 and became regular in the starting line-up. Under the new manager however he ceased to appear in the nomination.

Since 2014 Pokorný has played 60 league games in Liberec, most of them during the era of Jindřich Trpišovský (now Slavia first-team coach) and sports director Jan Nezmar. He has played 14 Europa League games for Slovan as well. In summer 2016 Pokorný gained his only cap for the Czech national team so far in a friendly against Armenia.

“Since I have heard about the possibility to join Slavia I was not thinking about any other moves. I am really looking forward to playing here. The last six month in France were hard, but I leave with my head held high. I have already needed a new challenge. I believe we will be successful, because Slavia deserve it,” Pokorný said shortly after the signing of the contract.

“One of the main reasons was cooperation with coach Trpišovský and Jan Nezmar. There is also big chance to win, to play and to be closer to my family. I am hungrier now than I was when leaving Liberec. I was missing big games and I am lookig forward to playing them,” continued Pokorný.
