Czech national team turns red-white

Three more players joined Czech national team after late nomination for games with Ukraine and Russia. There are now 8 players in the squad of coach Karel Jarolím.
“There will be maybe seven players remaining during the international break,” manager Trpišovský was joking after the game with Plzeň. But he was not far from the truth. Another 3 players joined Czech national team on Monday to prepare for UEFA Nations League game against Ukraine (Thursday, 6th September, 20:45 in Uherské Hradiště) and friendly in Russia (Monday, 10th September in Rostov-on-Don).

While for Jaromír Zmrhal and Stanislav Tecl this is not their first call, it could be maiden start for goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář. “It is like a giant fulfilled dream. I want to thank Slavia, all the coaches and all my teammates, because I would not make it without them. I believe I will not disappoint them and I will be useful member of the national team,” Kolář said after the announcement. Kolář was called after an injury of Jiří Pavlenka – former Slavia goalkeeper now playing for Werder Bremen.

There are now 8 Slavia players in the Czech national team selected by former Slavia manager Karel Jarolím. Except for Zmrhal, Tecl and Kolář, there are Hušbauer, Sýkora, Souček, Bořil and Coufal. In case all of them played in one game, they would equal the number of Slavia players in Czechoslovak national team in the Final of 1934 World Cup in Italy!
