Czech Goal of the Year award for Ondřej Lingr

Ondřej Lingr’s long-range shot against OGC Nice has been voted Czech Goal of the Year 2020.

Ondřej Lingr curled the ball behind Nice goalkeeper Benitez into the top right corner of the goal in the 4th game of the UEFA Europa League Group Stage in November 2020. It was his maiden goal for Slavia, the Red-whites won 3-1 away at Nice and made a huge step towards the qualification for the knockout stage. Slavia finished second in the group behind Bayer Leverkusen and progressed to the quarter-finals eliminating Leicester City and Ranger FC.

“I will remember the goal for my entire life. Even today I sometimes watch the replay, I will probably never forget it. It has been the most beautiful strike in my career so far and it has enhanced my self-esteem in the following games. I am not afraid to shoot, and I believe I will score more similar goals,” Ondřej Lingr said.

Five Slavia players have won the award in last six years. Milan Škoda in 2015, Josef Hušbauer in 2017, Miroslav Stoch in 2018 and Petr Ševčík in 2019.
