Autumn 2020 in a nutshell

Autumn part of the 2020/21 season is over and it´s time to look at some Slavia numbers.

The current season is far from traditional, mostly due to ongoing Covid-threat which influences not only Czech Fortuna Liga (which usually finishes much earlier than on 23 December), but also the European competitions and their schedule. Despite this, Slavia are on top of the league and secured the qualification to the UEFA Europa League Round of 32.

Autumn in numbers

Slavia played 21 games in the first half of the season with the record of 15 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats.

The only 3 losses came in the European competitions. At the end of September 1-4 away to Midtjylland in the UCL Play-off, the other two in the UEL away to Beer Sheva and Leverkusen.

In the Czech league Slavia remain unbeaten this season. The red-whites gained 35 points in 13 games for 11 wins and 2 draws (away to Pardubice and home to Brno). Slavia did well in the key games with their biggest title rivals as we won 3-0 away at Sparta and 1-0 away at Viktoria Plzeň.

Despite the initial loss to Beer Sheva in the UEFA Europa League, Slavia managed to seize 4 wins in a row and secured the qualification to the knock-out stage with one game left.

Forward!

Slavia scored 48 goals in 21 games this autumn, 36 of them in Czech Fortuna Liga (13 games). It makes 2.77 goals scored on average. The red-whites also recorded two 6-0 away wins - against České Budějovice and Opava. In the UEL Group Stage we scored 11 goals and conceded 10 (7 in the away defeats against Beer Sheva and Leverkusen).

Abdallah Sima is the club’s top scorer with 10 goals (7 in the league, 3 in the UEL) despite joining the first team in late September and playing his first starting line-up in early November. Peter Olayinka scored 6 goals, Jan Kuchta, Lukáš Provod and Nicolae Stanciu all scored 4 goals. Overall, 14 players have at least one scored goal including 5 defensive players and goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář.

Petr Ševčík made the biggest number of assists (6) throughout all competitions, Nicolae Stanciu provided 5, Lukáš Masopust 4.

Defence

18 goals conceded in 21 games does not look particularly great, but most of them (78%) we conceded in the European cups - UCL Play-off (4) and UEL Group Stage (10). In the Fortuna Liga we conceded only 4 goals in 13 games which makes 0.3 goal on average (or else - we concede one goal every 293 minutes).

13 games, 36 goals scored, 4 goals conceded, 9 clean sheets. That is our 2020/21 autumn league record.

Time on the pitch

Ondřej Kolář did not miss a single minute in all competitions and our goalkeeper is thus the player with the biggest workload (1,890 minutes in 21 games). Captain Jan Bořil started to 18 games (1,458 minutes) and so did Ondřej Kúdela who spent on the pitch just 5 minutes less. David Zima started to 16 games (1,427 minutes), Lukáš Masopust to 20 games (1,408 minutes).
