Aleš Mandous joins Slavia goalkeeping team

29-year old Mandous joins Slavia from Sigma Olomouc. Czech second goalkeeper on current EURO 2020 signed contract until June 2026.

Aleš Mandous has spent 3 current seasons in Sigma Olomouc being one of the key players for the Czech top-tier club. In 2020/21 he made 30 league caps with 10 clean sheets and helped the club to reach 9th place in the Czech Fortuna Liga.

Mandous underwent medical examination in Prague Military University Hospital on Monday, 12 July, and travelled with the first team to Austria for the summer training camp.

“I am glad Slavia decided to choose me. It is the best team in the league, and my ambitions have been high too. I am looking forward to cooperating with Ondřej Kolář, I believe I can learn a lot from him. It will be a great experience. I want to improve and to help Slavia reach the best possible results,” Mandous said after his transfer.

Aleš Mandous started his senior career in Viktoria Plzeň and made his first-team debut in March 2013 in the Czech Cup game against Hradec Králové.

He spent two following seasons on loan to Střížkov and Baník Most in the Czech second division before his transfer to Žilina (Slovakia) in 2015. The 185 cm tall goalkeeper made most of his caps for the reserves, but started to several league games and Champions League qualifiers.

In summer 2018 Mandous returned to the Czech Rebublic and joined Sigma Olomouc. He became No. 1 in Sigma in 2019/20 and earned his firs call-up to the Czech national team for the Nations League home game against Scotland. Due to several absences, he was called up for the EURO 2020 and served as second goalkeeper of the Czech national team behind Tomáš Vaclík.

Mandous kept 16 clean sheets and added 2 assists in his 47 starts in the Czech top tier. He was named Man of the Match on 15 occasions.
