Slavia will play BATE in Champions League 3rd qual. round

PRAGUE - Slavia will face BATE Barisaw from Belarus in the 3rd qualifying round of 2017/18 UEFA Champions League. First leg is played in Prague Eden Arena on Tuesday, 25th July at 7 pm. Time and date of second Leg in Belarus to be determined.
BATE qualified for the 3rd round by eliminating Armenian side Alashkert (1-1 home and 3-1 away).

For Slavia the game with BATE will be the first ever encounter with the side from Belarus. BATE has been dominating the Belarussian league recently with 11 consecutive titles. The club was founded in 1973, but later ceased to exist and was renewed in 1996. Since that time BATE has won 13 Belarussian championships and 3 Belarussian cups.

Our opponent has been playing in European cups regularly since 1999/2000. They competed five times in the group stage of UEFA Champions League, last time in 2015/16 eliminating Dundalk, Videoton and Partizan Belgrade in qualifiers. In 2016/17 BATE was eliminated by Dundalk in CHL 3rd qual. round and later lost to Astana in Europa League play-offs.

In recent season of Belarussian League BATE is on the second place, two points behind Shakhtyor Soligorsk. Their record: 10-3-2, score 24-7. Best striker so far is Michail Gordejchuk with seven goals.

Slavia drew 0–0 with Athletic Bilbao in the 5th round of the Champions League league phase. Jindřich Staněk delivered an exceptional performance, denying the Basque club four clear goal-scoring opportunities. After five matches, the Red-Whites have three points from three draws.

Slavia defeated Bohemians in front of 18,992 spectators at Fortuna Arena and continue to lead the Chance Liga table. The Vršovice derby was decided in the first half, with goals from Tomáš Chorý and Štěpán Chaloupek (the latter deflected in by Okeke). In the second half, Lukáš Provod scored a stunning strike, while Zeman pulled one back for the visitors.
