Jaroslav Šilhavý: Every defeat would be a disappointment

PRAGUE/EDEN - The sharp start into the 2017/18 European campaign. Slavia will face BATE on Tuesday and the game in Eden is likely to be sold-out. “I would like not to concede and to win of course. But we must not underestimate our opponent," manager Jaroslav Šilhavý says.

Jaroslav Šilhavý: Every defeat would be a disappointment

„We are under pressure, but it is common in such team and in such situation. We want to qualify as well as our management. But we must respect the strength of our opponent. BATE has experienced team and they have been playing in European cups recently. They have also played more games – the home league since late March, second qualifying round of Champions League. And they have succeeded,” Šilhavý says.

“I do not want to uncover what we know about our opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. But they have won title last five years and they have very fast players. In contrary I think that they could be weaker in defence, they rule in the Belarussian league and they needn’t be much experienced on this matter,” Šilhavý added.

“I would like not to concede and to win of course. But we must not underestimate our opponent. Every defeat would be a disappointment,” the manager concluded.

Josef Hušbauer: We are stronger than last year

“We are much stronger this year than we were last year before games with Anderlecht. Last year many of us played their very first European encounters. With new reinforcements there is much more experience in the team and the young guys are stronger as well. I believe we are better than last year and we will prove that on the pitch,” Hušbauer says.

“New players have been incorporated into the team well. It is obvious that they have played many important games. They are experienced, they can calm the team down even if we are not playing well. I believe they can show it in the game as well,” our midfielder continued.

“The qualification for the Champions League would be a great success. I have always played just the Europa League and to try the atmosphere of Champions League is my dream,” Hušbauer concluded.
