Villarreal CF - Slavia
VILLARREAL/ESTADIO DE LA CERAMICA - Slavia had a dream entry into their third game in UEFA Europa League leading 2-0 after 30 minutes. But only two minutes at the end of the first half were enough for Villarreal to equalize. There were no more goals in the second half so both teams were rewarded with one point.
Villarreal were considered favourite of the group A from the very beginning. Despite this fact Slavia manager Jaroslav Šilhavý had left several key players including Bořil, Hušbauer and Rotaň out of the starting eleven. Recovering from the injury Danny started as a captain along Sýkora and Zmrhal in the midfield with Tomáš Necid leading the line.

On the other side Villarreal manager Callejja had left his most-shining star Bakambu on the bench. But other big names such as Bacca or Soriano were ready to play from the very beginning.

After opening 15 minutes played in a careful mode it was Slavia who had taken a lead. At minute 18 the home goalkeeper punched the ball away from the box just to find Sobol’s boots, the Ukrainian defender returned the ball into the box from the left-hand side and Tomáš Necid glanced his cross expertly into the far corner.

The red & whites did not really set the pace of the game but got a chance to double their lead after half an hour into the match. And it was no one else than Slavia captain Danny who capitalized a stunning combination of Frydrych, Hromada and Sýkora on the right wing.

Just after the second goal the Yellow Submarine put their engine in gear. At minute 41 Trigueros latched onto a precise through pass by Fornals and sent the ball past Laštůvka to score a contact goal.

Two minutes later Carlos Bacca proved his excellence and levelled the score. The Colombian striker prepared the ball inside of the box after a cross from the right-hand side and left no chance for Laštůvka with his shot which to the right post.

Slavia had to re-organize the defence during the break when Bořil replaced injured Deli and Frydrych changed to the position of centre-back and it was the home side who were in charge for most of the second half.

However the fans did not see another goal in that warm evening. Fornals’ shot was blocked by the defenders twice, Ünal missed with his header from inside the box and Bacca was denied by Laštůvka in his biggest chance.

Both sides are thus on 5 points in the table of group A, both unbeaten after 3 games in the Europa League group stage.
