MANAGER | We will do everything to qualify

“We want to build on our performance from the first half in Cluj,” Jindřich Trpišovský says.
One of the key games of the season lies ahead of the red-whites. On Wednesday, Slavia will play CFR Cluj in the UEFA Champions League play-off. Slavia have been 10 times in this position before, only once the red-whites eventually qualified. 12 years ago, against Ajax Amsterdam. In 2007 they also won the 1st leg 1-0 and Slavia keeper also saved a penalty. Coincidence? We will see…

“We are one game from the Champions League, and I can feel from the boys how much they want to qualify. Everyone will make everything to succeed. We cannot compare this game to anything we have been through so far, we just want to be there. And we will do everything, just as we have done so far. We subordinated everything to the qualification, it is important for us and for the club,” Slavia manager said.

“The chances remain 50:50 and we could see how dangerous club Cluj are. They have brilliant coach who wants to put the role of favourite to us, but both teams were equal in the first game. But for me it is like there have been no first leg. On Wednesday we play for the qualification. And chances are equal,” Trpišovský continued.

Slavia manager expect similar performance as in Glasgow from Slavia opponents. “I expect the same what they showed in Scotland for the whole game. They will play like in Glasgow and they will want to continue what they showed in the second half in Cluj. They are good in pressing, they try to impose their own game on their opponents and destroy their own style of play. Also, they are very strong from set pieces, they score a lot from them.”

Qualification for the UEFA Champions League would be one of the biggest successes for our manager. “For me it has been a great success to be in a big football. If somebody told me five years ago that I would fight for the Champions League, I would not believe him. It would be a great honour for me, one of the top things I have ever experienced in sport,” Trpišovský concluded.

The game starts at Sinobo Stadium on Wednesday, 28 August, at 9 pm. Tickets have sold out, there should be almost 20 thousand fans supporting Slavia in this important game. In case you are attending the game we strongly recommend to come in advance to avoid crowds.
