Biggest Prague Derby Attendances

The Prague Derby has always been attracting huge crowds. The absolute record – 50,105 fans – are now both clubs trying to break in virtual charity Derby.

The history of Prague Derby between Slavia and Sparta started back in 1896 and there have been 295 mutual games by now. The highest ever attendance was recorded in September 1965 when 50,105 people found their way to Strahov stadium after both Slavia and Sparta returned to their traditional names after a long period of communist renaming craze.

But it was not the first game which attracted big crowds. On 8 June 1912 the 8th Derby saw attendance over 10,00 for the very first time as more than 12,000 people on Slavia stadium saw the red and whites lost 0-4 to their city rivals.

On 23 October 1921 the 26th Derby recorded the attendance of 23,000 which was the very first attendance over 20,000. The 30-thousand limit was exceeded during 64th Derby in May 1931 and after the second world war - in August 1945 - more than 40,000 people saw Slavia win 4-3 in Czech FA Cup semi-final on Strahov stadium. 20 years later the all-time attendance record of Czech football was created in the same place.

Btw the very first Derby on 29 March 1896 attracted 121 paying spectators. The last (295th at Sinobo Stadium) was attended by 19,370 fans as the stadium was sold out. Last away Derby at Generali Arena was attended by 17,292 people.

On 10 May 2020 the virtual charity Derby will take place, team consisting of 8 players will compete against each other in FIFA 20. Tickets for CZK 100 or CZK 300 (with gift from either Slavia or Sparta) can be purchased via ticketportal.cz. All proceeds go to nurses in Czech hospitals working hard during coronavirus crisis.
